  1. Houba Miso
    Houba is a Japanese magnolia leaf. Sweet miso with onions is put on it and cooked over fire.
    After grilling for a while, you put miso on top of rice and eat.
    It has been a popular food especially for winter among farmers.

    Recommended place: Kyo-ya
  2. Takayama Ramen
    It is also known as Chuka Soba by the locals.
    Thin, curly noodle and simple bonito plus soy sauce broth are used to make Takayama Ramen.
    The tastes vary depending on the shops.
    Roasted pork and pickled bamboo shoots and green onions are usually put on top.

  3. Goheimochi

    It is a grilled, skewered sweet rice cake.
    In other regions, people put soy sauce and miso on top but in Gifu prefecture,
    Egoma (type of perilla) flavored sauce is popular.

    Recommended place: Fukutarou (9:00 to 18:00)

  4. Mitarashi dango

    It is a popular sweet all over Japan. It is usually covered with a sweet sauce but a plain,
    soy sauce flavor is made in Takayama.  

    Price:70 to 80yen
    Recommended place: Jinya dango (8:30 to 16:30 Closed on the 3rd Tuesday of every month)
  5. Hida Beef

    One of the best brands of beef in Japan.
    Black-haired Japanese cattle are raised in rich nature in Gifu area and the quality of beef is the topmost.
    It is very tender and tastes sweet.

    Price Range: Around 1,000yen to 4,000yen

    Recommended place: Kotte Gyu (Hida Beef Sushi) (10:00 to 17:00)
